This weekend was full of walking around and adventures! Drew started working nights on Thursday, which meant he had Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday off! (Right now he is only on nights for 2 weeks AND I'm going to be in Spain the whole time! Lucky us!)
After we had spent way too many days watching Rooney assume his new position on the couch, we decided it was well beyond time to take him on an adventure. He is doing fairly well adjusting to a much more sedentary lifestyle than he is used to, but we can definitely tell he spends a lot of his days being bored. :(

Friday we took him on his very first outing in the city. We walked him through base to the strip, which is just over 2 miles. He was in heaven the whole way there. (A little hot and also mad that he wasn't running, but still in heaven.) DON'T WORRY. We brought plenty of water for him!! Once we got to the strip, he instantly became a local celebrity. I knew he would attract some attention, but I had NO IDEA to what extent! At first, people would just stop and stare at him and say, "WOW!" Once we were about half way down the strip, Drew went into a phone store to try to set up a plan for us. Rooney and I sat outside and waited on him. Same old thing for a few minutes; people would stare obnoxiously. After a few minutes, a little boy walked by and just stood in front of us. I said, "you can pet him!" and pet Rooney to show him what I meant. He got so excited and was smiling and petting Rooney over and over. After him, a middle aged woman stood in front of us and tried to sneak a picture. I said, "you can take a picture!" and then she made Rooney pose hahaha!! She told me she LOVED my dog and pet him forEVER. Once people saw that woman petting Rooney, everyone who walked by had to stop and pet him. At one point, there were nine 20 somethings surrounding us, taking pictures, petting Rooney, and trying to talk to him. At first, Rooney LOVED all of the attention! But... after a while I think he got annoyed. It started getting obnoxious when every single person on the strip stopped us to gawk at him. It was, however, adorable when all of the little Korean kids would wave at him and say, "annyeong!" (HI) Rooney just wasn't having it after being out for 3 hours.
We were VERY impressed with him though. We even stopped at a restaurant and had lunch while he sat at our feet and got to eat some white rice. Such a spoiled dog he has become! (Haha okay, I know he was spoiled before we came!) But I would be lying if I said he hasn't gotten even more spoiled recently. He got an ice cream cone ;)
Finally, after being gone for 4 hours or so, we knew it was time to take him home. We headed back to base and stopped at the dog park so he could run off the rest of his never-ending energy. Then we said, "Rooney do you wanna go home?" and he couldn't get there fast enough. He was practically running the entire 2 miles; he was so excited. Needless to say, I'm sure, he slept for the rest of the night. (So did Drew and I haha)

On Saturday, we had rough plans to go to Seoul, but we decided against it when some friends told us about the train station in Pyeongtaek, which is about 7 miles away. Drew and I walked to the train station in Songtan, 2.5 miles away. I swear if I don't leave Korea about 20 pounds lighter, there is something wrong. All we do is walk. Besides the scalding temperatures on most days, and the worse-than-Indiana humidity EVERY day, we love being able to walk where ever we are going. (Drew would tell you I think otherwise after listening to me complain about the amount of sweat my body produces on these walks, but I digress.)
Once to Songtan Station, we hopped on a train and rode to Pyeongtaek. This train station was HUGE. It's 8 or 9 floors and basically a giant, over-priced mall. The clothes there were ADORABLE, but anyone who knows me knows that I would never pay more than $20 for an article of clothing. (Let alone the norm of $78 for one dress!) We window shopped a bit, went to the top floor garden that overlooked the city, and then found a place to eat.

We ate the most delicious Japanese meal ever. It was definitely the best meal I have eaten in Korea so far. But, it was an interesting restaurant experience.
First, let me say that I SUCK at using chopsticks. I swear I used to be able to use them, but now it's impossible. I usually let myself struggle for 5 minutes and then I switch to a fork or spoon. Well at this restaurant, all of the waiters and waitresses were standing RIGHT next to our table and watching me struggle the whole time. It was so embarrassing. But even more so when one of the waitresses brought us forks. I was SO offended haha. I had to prove a point and use chopsticks for the whole meal. I'm sure she was surprised to see two clean, unused forks on our table when we left.
I will say though, I think all Asians struggle with chopsticks, hence why they are so skinny! Okay kidding.

After eating, we shopped around a bit, (I was actually able to find some cheap dresses outside of the train station!) got some much needed bubble tea from none other than.... DUNKIN' DONUTS! and then headed home. It was yet another fun filled weekend in South Korea. Next up, dos semanas en España!!!
