Even though our wedding was completely planned, Drew still hadn't proposed to me since we've been 1000 miles apart for the last 18 weeks. I knew he was going to propose at some point, but I had no idea when it would happen. He had me completely convinced that he was going to do it on Christmas day... which he KNEW was my worst nightmare! I have never wanted to get engaged on a holiday, and he was well aware. I was 100% sure I was going to wake up on Christmas morning and find a ring box under the tree, in my stocking, SOMEWHERE. Drew even told me about 20 times that he was NOT going to propose at the airport and I needed to get that idea out of my head. Man, he's good.
On Saturday morning I woke up EXTRA early, only to discover that Drew's flights had both been delayed. Luckily, he made his connection in Dallas and was in the air by 9:30! I was completely ready to walk out the door by 9:00, but I decided I needed to repaint my chipped nails. THANK GOODNESS I DID! When I was getting ready, I thought a few times that it was really weird that my whole family was getting ready to go somewhere. They weren't coming to the airport to see Drew, so I wondered where they were going. My mom said they had to make some returns at the mall before they met us for lunch. That sounded pretty realistic to me, so I didn't think anymore about it.
I got to the airport and sat with Drew's parents, brother, and grandma for what seemed like 24 hours. (It was only about 30 minutes!) Once we knew his plane had landed, Drew's mom kept trying to push me up toward the front so I could "get a better look." I just went with the flow and waited to see Drew coming down the escalator.
Then a random guy came through the doors and handed me a rose. "Merry Christmas!"
I thought, oh that's kind of weird. Maybe the pilot handed out roses since most of the people were coming home for the holidays. And then another guy gave me one. I still thought maybe he just didn't know who else to give it to, and since the guy before him gave me one, he might as well!
AND THEN the roses kept coming. Even a soldier walked through the doors, gave his girlfriend a one-armed hug, and gave me a rose!

Okay... something is going on. At this point I realized Drew had given roses to people to hand to me. BUT I STILL DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS GOING TO PROPOSE! The thought didn't even cross my mind. I thought, awh how sweet. He bought a dozen roses and he is going to be my 12th rose. What a cute reunion!
And then the 10th rose was handed to me by a woman who was crying her eyes out and she said, "Look at you! Congratulations!"
HUH? Why are you congratulating me? OH MY GOSH HE IS GOING TO PROPOSE!

And then I saw my handsome Airman walking toward me with my last rose. I didn't see the ring box until he got down on one knee and opened it up.
I was so shocked and caught off guard that after he asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him, all I could say was, "mmhmm." Not yes, not yeah, not yep... MMHMM. My whole body was shaking. I was SO SURPRISED.
After I hugged him I turned around and realized my whole family was there! I had NO IDEA they were coming! AND they had the whole thing on video!

Everyone in the airport was crying and clapping and taking pictures and videos. My mom had to give a random stranger a kleenex to wipe away her tears!
Needless to say, I was- and still am- the happiest girl alive. I can't believe so many people knew about this and not a single person spilled the beans. I can't believe my family was there to watch. I can't believe Drew tricked me SO WELL into thinking it would happen on Christmas. And I can't believe I get to marry my best friend in 9 days. I am so blessed.
