home Sweet Home

For those of you who have been dying for pictures of our apartment, HERE THEY ARE!
We are still getting moved in and organized, AND waiting for our TMO shipment to arrive!  Hopefully that comes soon so we can REALLY be moved in.  Not to mention have actual dishes and more than one pan!  We have been using plastic bowls, plates, forks, and ONE knife.  Cooking dinner has been very interesting with our single pan, but we are making due :)
Anyway, here are the pictures!!
Picture
Our entrance way.. Koreans don't wear shoes in the house so they have areas when you first walk in to take your shoes off and change into slippers! (PS.. Rooney thought he was going out to play as soon as I opened the door!)
Picture
Giant shoe closets... I wish I had enough shoes to fill it!
Picture
Sliding glass door into the house.
Picture
Hallway from the front door.
Picture
First bedroom.. Workout room perhaps? This bedroom has a walk out porch that faces the road.
Picture
Second bedroom. This is our suitcase room ;)
Picture
Third bedroom. This is Rooney's bedroom! ;) He stays in here when we leave the house. He has a HUGE walk out porch so he can enjoy the fresh air!
Picture
Guest bathroom. My new favorite thing is a wet bathroom! There is a drain in the floor and you don't have to worry about water getting all over the floor.
Picture
Living room. Clearly the boys are having SO MUCH FUN... =\
Picture
Other part of the living room with our giant TV. That unfortunately doesn't have English channels :( And that red thing is a Korean air conditioner. It sings to us when we turn it on!
Picture
Our amazing porch. And Rooney's pool! (I might have to start sitting in it since it's getting so hot! ;) )
Picture
Other side of the porch with our grill (sans propane tank so we can't use it yet)
Picture
View of the GIANT kitchen from the living room.
Picture
Look at all of that counter space!!!!!! (Ignore the open dishwasher.. we are using it as a dish drainer for now haha)
Picture
Other side of the kitchen.
Picture
Our plain jane bedroom. (Still unpacking!!)
Picture
MY VANITY AREA that I am so in love with!
Picture
I need this in every house I ever live in now!
Picture
Master bathroom. WET BATHROOM!!!
Picture
Sink (with hideous decals on the wall that I am removing little by little every day)
Picture
The greatest thing EVER. Our shower, which drains into the floor drain in the other half of the bathroom. This thing just makes so much sense. AND makes for easy dog baths! (More hideous decals on the wall)
Picture
Bath tub that hasn't been used yet.. Still gotta buy some bleach before my germaphobic self is getting in there!
Picture
Utility room
And that's the apartment.  We are going to walk around the area tomorrow and explore our surroundings, so I will upload some pictures of the area soon!

And for your viewing pleasure, this is our neighbor's puppy that I discovered this evening.  He and his sister are the cutest things in the world.  Jessica and I asked the owner if they'd sell the puppies, but they said no.  Poor babies wanted to get out and play SO BADLY.  They're so cute!!!

Welcome to South Korea!

I FINALLY MADE IT!  After months and months of preparation, stress, and tears, Rooney and I arrived in South Korea on Wednesday, May 21st!  We had a very uneventful trip over.  Rooney was sedated and riding underneath the plane, and I was riding uncomfortably in a middle seat up top.  (Unfortunately not sedated ;) BUT they did have free alcohol!)
Once we landed, found our luggage, reunited with Rooney, and went through customs, I could breathe the biggest sigh of relief knowing all of my planning and stress paid off; WE WERE IN SOUTH KOREA!

My plane food (JUST FOR YOU ISABEL!!!!) I didn't get a picture of my Korean breakfast though! :)
On Thursday I woke up bright and early, (1 am to be exact haha) to start my day!  I was so jetlagged that I couldn't even get back to sleep!  Another wife, Jessica, and I went straight to a realtor's office to go house hunting.
Thankfully, we had heard amazing things about a realtor, Sissy, who is located just outside of the main gate on base.  We walked into her office, told her what we needed, and off we went!  Sissy showed us 4 different "villas" that were very close to where the boys will be working.  We absolutely fell in LOVE with two that happened to be in the same building.  Unfortunately, we aren't able to move in right away, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that we can next Wednesday.  The housing office on base has to inspect our apartment and then we will be able to move in!  Pictures of the apartment will be coming very soon! :)
Picture
There are so many rice paddies near our apartment! We are smack dab in the middle of the Korean community! I love it :)
Picture
Koreans farm WHERE EVER they can! There are little bitty farms all around our apartment! There is even a dairy farm down the street a bit. Reminds me of home ;)
Drew had a 4 day weekend because of Memorial Day, so we have been able to explore and see a lot of what's around us.  So far, we both LOVE Korea!  The food is amazing and the people are very nice.  Thursday night we ate at a Korean restaurant in Songtan.  We had beef bulgogi (YES I SWEAR IT WAS BEEF) and bibimbap.  It was delicious.  And let me also say that Seoul Garden in Fort Wayne knows what's up.  Their food is actually pretty authentic!  Not AS delicious as the stuff we've had here, but it's pretty close.  I love that Korean meals come with about a hundred different things.  We ordered the beef and bibimbap and it came with seaweed, kimchee, fruit, quail eggs, bean sprouts, cabbage, and lots more.
Picture
This is the beef bulgogi (cooking right on our table) and all of the sides. Oh and please notice that we all ordered a Soju drink! ( More about Soju in a minute ;) )
Picture
Bibimbap. SO SO GOOD. Bibimbap is always different, it just depends where you go. This was spinach, beansprouts, mushrooms, kimchee, cucumber, and an egg. It was cold, but we mixed it with steamed rice and sesame seed oil and it was DELICIOUS.
So about Soju.  We were told by a few people to "Stay away from Soju!"  Well, that didn't stop us!  We tried it for the first time Thursday night and let's just say we will be trying it again VERY frequently ;)  Soju is a Korean alcohol that has no scent, no color, and NO TASTE!  All of this and it's 90 proof AND dirt cheap!  It's usually consumed straight and is common to sip on during a meal.  Well, us Americans do things a bit differently.  We made some mixed drinks and went a little crazy :)  We need Soju in America.  I can only describe it as tears of angels.  Yes, it's that good.
Picture
Soju for days! I need about 12 of those bottles with the purple lid! They were gallon bottles for 11,900 won!! (Basically $11.90)
Today is Saturday and Drew and I decided to go on a Korean Adventure!  We took a 10 minute cab ride to a store called, Home Plus, which is essentially a Korean Target.  Home Plus has 4 floors and they are all perfect!  They have everything; groceries, clothes, home decor, sports equipment, a food court, and a playground!  I was in heaven the whole time.  Drew on the other hand, ehhh... it was shopping so he wasn't too enthusiastic!  We did have a lot of fun walking through the grocery aisles and looking at all of the different food and drinks they have.
Picture
They have the CUTEST kids clothes here. The outfit on the left is so adorable!!

Baby's first chopsticks!!!
After seeing all there was to see inside Home Plus, we decided to walk back to base.  I thought for sure I knew exactly where I was going, but I guess I hadn't been paying that great of attention on the ride there.  We walked through the streets in the heart of Pyeontaek.  It ended up taking us about an hour and a half to get back to base and we didn't see a single American the whole way!  BUT IT WAS AWESOME!  We walked through street markets and saw the Korean shop owners eating their lunches inside their stores.  We walked past two men who were sipping on Soju with their lunch outside their store.  It was so cool to explore.  We got some pretty weird looks though!  I'm sure most of the Koreans were thinking, "They must have no idea where they are!"  And while they were right, we were glad to not know where we were.  It was such a fun day!
(I guess I should say that we eventually had to ask a woman if she knew where Osan Air Base was.  Luckily she spoke great English and pointed us in the right direction.  BUT!  We had been going the right way all along!!!)
Picture
The view from Home Plus on our way toward base. Those are high rise apartments in the city.
Picture
A lot of people keep asking me for pictures of pagodas or Korean buildings. Well... here are your Korean buildings! No pagodas here!

For the rest of today we are going to relax and take Rooney for a walk around base.  I would LOVE to be able to shake this jet lag!  Tomorrow and Monday are two more days that we have to explore what's around us!

Annyeong!! And have a great day :)
